Meet Alisa

I am a first-generation Vietnamese-American who is proud to call Tacoma home. Growing up, my father always told me how lucky we were to be in America, a country where we could vote, go to school, and even run for office. Watching my father, who came to this country as a refugee with nothing work to achieve the American Dream inspired me to want to give back. My families story is why I have chosen to live a life of service and is the reason I am here today, running for office to serve our community.

As an experienced board member and community connector I have devoted my life to public service and building skills that bring people together to find the best possible outcomes through an equity lens. Some of my more notable leadership roles include serving as a board member for Asian and Pacific Islanders for Civic Empowerment (APACE), serving as a community advisor with the Magic Cabinet Foundation and being a steering committee member for the Washington Voting Justice Coalition (WVJC) for multiple years. I am someone that seeks to build bridges and believes that we are stronger together.

In my current position at Sage Leaders, I run a variety of leadership development programs including a support cohort, training workshops, and 1-1 coaching. Recently I have worked to expand these programs to help support individuals from marginalized communities across the state. With my background in running diverse voter outreach projects and running listening sessions I have redesigned many of our programs with great success.

In my appointed term, I will focus my energy on the issues that are top of mind for many of us - making sure our parks are safe and accessible, preserving green spaces for future generations, increasing the accessibility and inclusivity of Metro Parks spaces, finding ways to meet the childcare needs of families in Tacoma, and ensuring we are doing our part to meet the needs of the climate change crisis. I will also focus my time on listening to our community members and gaining a better understanding of what our constituents hope to see from our parks. For me, being in a role where I can bring people and places together in ways that increase belonging and wellness is an amazing opportunity to give back in a bug way. There is a lot I want to do and I am excited to get to work.
